How to Identify your Body Type

Trends change fast, and it's not always easy to know how to adapt them for our unique body shape. I believe that fashion is about feeling great in the looks we love and feeling great in who we are.

Women come in all shapes and sizes, so how do you find clothes that are flattering your specific body type? The key is to know your proportions, and use fashion to accentuate your best features & hide everything else!

Determine what type your body is. Pay attention to your curves. Look how they connect your bust, waist and hips. There are 4 types of body share which shown in the picture below.

There is no "best" or "worst" body type. A certain type may be fashionable in your particular locale, at this period in time, but this does not mean your body type is "bad". All body types have pros and cons. Knowing your body type is about dressing to look your best.

1. Pear Shaped body type aka triangle shape

You may be this body type if:

  • Your waist is wider than your bust

  • You consider yourself to have fuller hips

  • You have narrower shoulders in comparison to your hips

  • You have a fuller rear

2. Apple Shaped body type aka inverted triangle

It is opposite of the pear shaped body type. You may be this body type if:

  • You are generally well-proportioned

  • Your shoulders are broader than your hips

  • You are not necessarily as curvy through your hips

  • You don't have a well-defined waistline (if you do, you're likely an hourglass!)

3. Hourglass Shaped body type aka curvy shape

You may be this body type if:

  • You'd describe your body as curvy both on top and on the bottom

  • You have a well-defined waist

  • Your bust and hip measurements are roughly even

  • You may have fuller bust, hips and thighs

4. Athletic Shaped body type aka rectangle or straight shape

You may be this body type if:

  • You're not particularly curvy

  • Your shoulders and hip measurements are nearly the same

  • Your waist isn't very small or well-defined, but rather straight up and down

  • Your weight is fairly evenly distributed throughout your body
